If Microsoft buys Yahoo, they'd become even more inescapable. Flickr, Yahoo CC search, Yahoo mail (for those who still use it), it all becomes Microsoft's territory and using them in turn ends up being in support of Microsoft... This would end up turning into one big unhealthy oligopoly between Google and Microsoft on the web, with everybody else far behind in size and control.. Not good. :S

As for Novell, well, just as we may have assumed long ago it's not like they're a real friend to Free Software. It is all just business to them. They saw an opportunity to exploit, ended up contributing something back, but not because of some good heart, but because this is what they have to do - it is not Novell's culture, it is Free Software culture that made them contribute what they did.

But any time a pendulum switches, they'd be right back with proprietary stuff, as long as it suits their business. As Microsoft partners, it's not surprising they help sell Vista. :S

Real friends of Freedomware are only those who genuinely care about its most significant characteristic, freedom, and about preserving that being a goal even bigger than profits of any particular business.
